Legal papers for European citizens to be married in Greece

1. PASSPORT COPY OF BRIDE AND GROOM. (European Citizens)

2. FULL BIRTH CERTIFICATES OF BRIDE AND GROOM.

Both parties are obliged to provide full Birth Certificate. No shorter versions will be accepted.

3. CERTIFICATE OF NO IMPEDIMENT TO MARRIAGE OF BRIDE AND GROOM.

This document confirms that you have not been married and that you are free to be married. This document can be issued at your local Registrar's office and it must not be issued more than three months prior to your wedding in Greece.

4. DIVORCE CERTIFICATE IF ANY.

In the case that one or both sides has been divorced, you are obligated to obtain this Certificate.

5. OFFICIAL DOCUMENT ABOUT CHANGING THE NAME, IF ANY.

6. ADOPTION CERTIFICTES, IF ANY.

7. APOSTILLE STAMP.

This stamp which is mandatory refers to the legalization and validating of your documents for international use. (1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents).

The official Apostille Stamp is necessary to legalize and validate the Birth Certificates and Certificates of no Impediment to marry.

All documents must be translated and certified at the Greek Embassy/ Consulate in your country where translation services are provided.

Please confirm that all your paperwork is in order at least four weeks prior to your departure from your country.

Thereafter, you need to carry all the originals with you to Greece.

You will be required to stay in Greece at least 1(one) working day after your wedding, in order for you to go to the local Town Hall to sign your Marriage Certificate. It will be sent to you by post from the Town Hall.
