1. COPY OF THE PASSPORTS OF THE BOTH PARTIES.

2. ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES OF BOTH PARTIES.

Both parties are obliged to provide a full Birth Certificate. Short versions will not be accepted.

3. CERTIFICATE OF MARITAL STATUS (NO IMPIDEMENT)

This certificate confirms that you have not been married and that you are free to be married. This document can be issued at your local registrar's office and must NOT be issued more than 3 (three) months prior to your wedding.

4. Death Certificate

(Only in the event that any of the parties have previously been married and a previous spouse is now deceased).

5. DIVORCE CERTIFICATE

(In the event that any of the parties is divorced.)

6. OFFICIAL DOCUMENT ABOUT CHANGING THE NAME

(The Original Court Order must be produced) If a name has been changed.

7. All documents must be officially translated by the Greek Embassy or Consulate in your area.

8. With the exception of the passport requirements all other documents must bear the official APOSTILLE STAMP.

This stamp refers to the legalization and validity of your documents for international use (1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents). Please visit www.dfa.gov.za/consular/legalisation.htm for information on the required apostille stamp. You may also go to the legal papers section and click on apostille stamp and then alphabetically find the link on South Africa.

Please confirm that all your documents are in order at least four weeks prior to your departure from South Africa, leaving ample time for corrections. Following this you need to carry the originals with you to Greece. Before your departure check with your Greek Embassy, or Consular office to confirm that all requirements have been met, because laws do change, the onus rests with you.

You will be required to stay in Greece at least 1(one) working day after your wedding, in order to go to the local Town Hall in the area where the marriage has been solemnized in order to sign your Marriage Certificate, which will be sent to you by post.

Please also refer to the legal documents section required for Religious Ceremonies.
