Legal papers for Hong Kong citizens to be married in Greece

1. COPY OF THE PASSPORTS OF THE BOTH PARTIES.

2. FULL BIRTH CERTIFICATES OF BRIDE AND GROOM.

Both parties are obliged to provide a full Birth Certificate. Short versions will not be accepted.

3. CERTIFICATE OF NON IMPEDIMENT FOR BOTH PARTIES.

This document confirms that you have not been married and that you are free to marry. This document can be issued at your local Marriage Registry Office and it must not be issued more than 3 months prior to your wedding. (click HERE to see an example of the required document).

4. DIVORCE CERTIFICATE IN SUCH CASE THAT A DIVORCE HAS TAKEN PLACE.

In the event that any of the parties is divorced, please provide a certified copy of the Decree Absolute.

5. OFFICIAL DOCUMENT ABOUT CHANGING THE NAME/ IF THIS IS THE CASE.

6. ADOPTION CERTIFICTES IF ANY.

7. APOSTILLE STAMPS

This stamp refers to the legalization and validating of your documents for international use. (1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents).

The Apostille Stamp must be provided for Birth Certificates, Certificates of no Impediment to marry and also the Affidavits to be Free to Marry.

Please note that you should confirm that all your documents are in order at least four weeks prior to your departure from your country.Following this you need to bring the originals with you.to Greece.

You have to stay in Greece at least 1(one) working day after your wedding, in order to go to the local Town Hall to sign your Marriage Certificate. It will be sent to you by post from the Town Hall.
