In no other part of the world has there ever been such a concentration of masterpieces of architechture, paintings and sculptures in such a small area as one finds on an ancient hill-top, the Acropolis of Athens. Many of these famous buildings (The Propylia, The Parthenon, The Temple of Athena Nike, The Erechtheion) were torched by invaders after the battle of Thermopylae. When the Greeks returned to Athens after their victory at Salamis they found their city devastated and all the sacred buildings and sancturies on the Acropolis consumed by fire. They gathered all the scattered fragments and buried them in large pits, dug specifically for this purpose on the Acropolis, and that is where they were later discovered by archeologists!
What has not been so published is the Greek drive and inherent spirit of survival as well as their love for living life. Ancient Greeks and Classical Greeks have indulged in, and Modern Greeks continue to indulge in the art of enjoying themselves, wining, dining and living well. Perhaps the blue Mediterranean, its desirous climate, the magic of the islands together with ouzo, olives and bouzouki provide the perfect setting for living it up the way the mythical gods did! We offer you this perfect setting! Celebrate your wedding in Athens... and when the infectious toe-tapping grips you, simply let yourself go and be Greek. How ?... Allow the overwhelming bouzouki to pull you to your feet, raise your arms, click your fingers, then freely shout "OPA!" and join Zorba in his dance! |
